The deep space probe had one mission: transmit a message from Earth to the first intelligent life it encountered. The message contained all of human knowledge, history, art, and language.
Millions of years later, it landed on a distant, aquatic planet. The dominant species, a form of intelligent jellyfish, found the probe.
They opened the vault. They looked at the data chip containing all of humanity's information.
"Hmm," the lead jellyfish communicated via sonic waves. "It's all so dry."
They ignored the data chip and used the probe's shiny metal casing to build a very nice, reflective playground for their young. The message of humanity was lost to the practicalities of childcare.
