The Last Man On earth

50. The Last Man on Earth (Science Fiction/Humor/Microfiction)
Dr. Aris woke up in his laboratory. His time machine had worked, but his calculation was off. He was the last man on Earth.
He wandered the ruined streets, lonely and desperate for conversation. "Hello?" he yelled into the void. "Anyone?"
Finally, he saw a light in a high tower window. He climbed up, fueled by hope. He burst into the room. A woman sat there, reading a book.
She looked up, annoyed.
"I thought I was the last person on Earth!" Aris exclaimed, relieved.
"Well, you thought wrong," she snapped, rolling her eyes and going back to her book.
"Wait, why are you here? Why aren't you exploring?"
"Because," she said flatly, "I'm supposed to be the last woman on Earth, you idiot. Now the entire premise of my survival story is ruined. Go find your own apocalypse."

51. The Curator of Dreams (Magical Realism/Fantasy)
Elias worked in a museum that had no walls and no roof. It was simply a bench in the center of the world's most beautiful meadow, under the world's largest, oldest oak tree.
He was the Curator of Dreams. People came to him from all corners of the globe and sat on his bench, closing their eyes. They would share their most vivid dreams, which Elias would carefully capture with a small butterfly net and release into the branches of the oak tree.
The dreams settled in the leaves, creating a silent, shimmering display of human imagination. There were dreams of flying over cities of gold, dreams of quiet moments of peace, dreams of forgotten childhood pets.
One day, a woman arrived who had forgotten how to dream. Her life was efficient, practical, and colorlessly real. She sat on the bench, but nothing happened. She could only manage fragmented thoughts of to-do lists and spreadsheets.
Elias smiled kindly. He took his butterfly net and gently scooped up a vivid, sparkling dream that shimmered with the color of deep blue water and laughter. He released it near her face.
The woman inhaled the shimmering light. Her eyes widened. For a moment, she was swimming in the ocean with a dolphin. When the feeling faded, she finally understood what she had lost.
She thanked Elias and left the meadow. That night, for the first time in years, her mind went quiet, and then, a single, small dream started to bloom in her mind.
