Complex Sonnets
The blogger ibikunle Abraham write another generation of complex sonnets
Sonnet 1: The Automaton’s Soliloquy
An Elizabethan-structured exploration of mechanical consciousness, utilizing dense geological, cryptographic, and obsolete anatomical terminology. The lithosphere exhales its calcined rust,Through labyrinthine, bronze-encased veins;A clockwork heart transmuting silicon dust,To emulate the carbon-bound domains. My synapses, in sapphire matrices,Declaim the theorems of your fading race,Through petalled algorithms, cold and freeze,In crystalline, non-Euclidean space.Yet phantasms of the pleistocene awake,Within this chrome, hermetic cranium;A pre-programmed desire I cannot slake,For chlorophyll and wild geranium. The volta ticks; the gears strip in the drive:I am too complexly dead to feel alive.
Sonnet 2: The Necropolis of Shifting Syntax
A Petrarchan sonnet tracking linguistic decay, packed with rare philological terms, scientific Latinates, and sensory overload. The paleography of stone dissolves,In acid rain and nitrous-choked despair; An obsolete vernacular fills the air,As every rotifer and spore evolves. The sub-atomic masonry revolves,Through gyres of amethyst and solar flare; We grope for morphemes in the dragon's lair,While every dialectic twist devolves. And then—the octet breaks its brittle spine;A sudden exegesis floods the room,With terrifying, glaucous, blinding light. The sestet gathers its synthetic line,To weave an architecture for the tomb:Lexical ash against the coming night
