IGALA AND IGBO RIVALRY

🎯 Some Historical Events That Occurred Between The Igbo And Igala People

📌 The Igbo-Igala War:: A series of conflicts that took place between the Igbo people and the Igala people of Nigeria during the 18th and 19th centuries.

The conflicts occurred in the southeastern region of Nigeria, primarily in the areas now known as Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, Kogi, and Delta states. These wars led to the Battle of Nsukka.

📌 Conquest of Nsukka: The Nsukka-Igala wars occurred in the 18th to 19th century following an Igala invasion and left most of Nsukka under Igala control.

The Nsukka people have continuously inhabited northern Igboland since the 3rd millennium BCE as shown through archeological continuity and glottochronology.

📌 Battle of Nsukka: One of the 18th-century conflicts was the Battle of Nsukka in 1794, which resulted in a Nsukka military victory, but with significant losses including the Eze's eldest son and three of his wives.

The battle was witnessed by Sailor, Joseph B. Hawkins.

📌 Ebonyi Conquest: During the early 19th century, the Eastern Igbo subgroups located in Ebonyi State underwent a significant migration towards the Cross River areas, this in turn manifested in boundary disputes between several Eastern Igbo groups with her neighbors such as Ikwo-Nsobo and Osopo of Cross River State, Izzi – Osopo and Yala of Cross River State and Mgbo-Igala of Benue State.

Blogger.Despite all their wars the elusive dominant Igbos that knew igala were not their own would still be claiming igala a dialect of Yoruba in Kogi State and northern part of iboland belong to igbo

Does it make sense for Igbo to claim igala like idoma as their own?

Why would a tribe fought d entire country? And they think they are doing d right thing they lack home training and they feel inferior inferiority complex that Yoruba had educational lead and their forefathers woke up very late and that shock that they can't recover from resorted to teach their children lies and the kids lack home training led to successive civil warsWhy would a tribe fought d entire country? And they think they are doing d right thing they lack home training and they feel inferior inferiority complex that Yoruba had educational lead and their forefathers woke up very late and that shock that they can't recover from resorted to teach their children lies and the kids lack home training led to successive civil wars

Onye Maechi disagreed Nsuka people were not igala.Hear him.
Ogbeje Moses Nsukka people are not from Igala but we relate like brother and sister, many deities in some part of Nsukka mostly Enugu Ezike was installed by Igala.
That is why in Enugu Ezike you will see some family that don't know the meaning of their surname because it was given to their ancestors by the deity that was installed by Igala.
Old in days many Igala understand Igbo Nsukka very well and Nsukka understand Igala as well.
For my own town is like Igala was the one that colonized us because Eze have today came from Igala,my ppl don't Know anything like Eze,what we have is Ozo,Ngboshi etc but Igala brought Eze to us that is why every Eze in my place Attah of Idah will sign the certificate.
But initial our history said that we are from Idah from the old family of Asadu but he married Igbo woman, that they gave birth to three sun Nsukka Asadu Ideke Alumona, Obukpa Asadu Ideke Alumona and okpuje Asadu Ideke Alumona they are from same father and mother.
But let me help you again some ppl from Imo, Abia call everybody from Enugu North Nsukka man, Nsukka you are hearing is a name of particular town like you hear Obollo,Enugu Ezike,Opi but we used Nsukka to cover all the Igbo Nsukka because our languages are not far but each town in Enugu North have his or her own accent but we do understand each other.

Izuchukwu says
Lol
Igbo Igala war?
More like Igala vs one of the numerous Igbo towns.
Imagine Igala fighting a group as huge as Igbo.

They won't last even 2 days and will cease to exist."
But the question is how come igala colonized 25 percent of igboland.
Then another comment came from Ugochukwu.. hear him:
Ugochukwu Vik Okwor :migrants as in. Bro, we better create a balanced story. The influence of Igala on Abakaliki Igbo is significant to the extent that groups such as the Ikwo in some versions of their history hold that they migrated from Igala.

Also in Ngbo and entire Abakaliki, Nike and Nsukka, the title "Agaba Idu" is widely used. These relative factors may force one to begin to think rightly on the level of connections between the two groups.

I'm Igbo, but we need to explore basics in history.
