The proverb or this Yoruba adage was the most powerful words in those days when no one was around to pay tribute to the unsung hero in Ogbomoso from their clan in okelerin community where their so called Laniyan compound outflanked Akala compound closely,of which the later compound later produced the first governor from Ogbomoso to rule Oyo state. Yet the Laniyan family a prominent compound in the okelerin community was a prominent compound in that community and infact the first community that lay the foundation of Ogbomoso a powerful city in Nigeria and most fetish and most religious city in black Africa and the most invincible city resides in okelerin.Fetish fortress was so powerful in the city insomuch that her impregnable fortress was never for once conquered by war and the city sold the same voodoo to Ibadan blessed with the magical spells was never till date conquered by war.Hence only three cities were never conquered by war in black Africa Ogbomoso,Ibadan and iseyin respectively.The same city powered and built all the mission Schools in the north and was also used by the British to annex the north . Probably the British was aware of its fetish power and used them to annex the north until the formation of Nigeria's police force.As sign of tribute the white people reciprocated and cited the first seminary in the country in the city of Ogbomoso like the first medical college.
Unknown to many the Laniyan family by virtue of her unspoken oral history was responsible for the development of major businesses in the Ogbomoso town.They include bakeries, textiles merchants,supermarket chains, markets,soft drink production that the likes of alata supermarket later came to popularize.They also brought egugun festival from Osun state and settled at okelerin till date being the center of seasonal egugun festival in Ogbomoso.
Infact the prominent Ogbomoso merchants that waded into gold coast at some point where they were instrumental like the rest of Ogbomoso merchants in Ghana succesfully sent Kwame Nkrumah to school and also funded his political party united Gold coast convention and later Kwame Nkrumah won election.The ungrateful tribune later went ahead to send the Nigerian traders including Ogbomoso merchants out of Ghana.Oblivious of the prior contribution in 1920s being the bedrock of cocoa industrial revolution of the period,the cocoa industries in the fifties in Ghana crashed exponentially due to this betrayal and barbaric acts of nkwame Nkrumah.He had to beg and called them back to help in the rebound and it shows the thickness of the Ogbomoso merchants as the foundation of the west African trade and they did it in the fourteen countries especially Ghana and vote D'Ivoire and beyond.They became the most widely travelled black travellers in the whole world.They were with Manda Musa in the golden invasion of Europe and we're generally called the moors who colonized Europe for 800 hundred years and the moors were from Ogbomoso.Black power broke this hidden story in his anecdotes to white power .
Laniyan family patriarch was the richest man in the city at a time a pioneering textile merchant and the boom of Ogbomoso merchants in Ghana might have been credited to him the late pa Joseph Laniyan of blessed memory.When in 1943 black power supposed he might have founded the first indigenous conglomerate in black Africa as far as 1943 and by the dawn of 1963 the most enlightened and highly visionary siblings of the extended Laniyan family had ventured overseas to begin a new indigenous sets of industrial revolution in black Africa.
