POOR WASTE DISPOSAL AND ACCESS TO SAFE DRINKING WATER.

The power of environment by nature that supports life and culture including plants and species cannot be underestimated. When healthy environment comes under siege plant and animals are also threatened.
Poor waste disposal , scarce water, lack of sanitation or Insanitary means of waste disposal have been described as the major bane of healthy environment in Nigeria.
There is threat on human life and such phenomena has greatly ballooned the high incidence of infectious and parasitic diseases in Nigeria.Affordable access to safe drinking water can eliminate 80% of diseases and ailments in the nigerian society.Less than 45percent of nigerians have access to safe drinking water. The available data does reflect the good health indicators for the country. Some 30million nigerians who could not have access to safe water and due to the risk of onchoccerchariasis  are under risk of blindness .
The improper disposal of municipal waste leads to prevalence of food borne diseases in the country.Unlicensed food premises ,food street hawkers and dirty bukaterias  quite risky to afford.Indigenous waste management facilities hardly exist and malfunctional to create safe environment.State governments fail to adopt effective environmental health principles that ensure delivery of quality environmental health services. The proliferation of waste recycling plants and recycling practioners and lackadaisical improvement in human waste management that was not attached to sustainable environmental protection and promotion.Procurement of refuse collection routine equipments, industrial facilities, that have gone moribund in the face of poor health inspection of public occupational premises has tarried for decades .The alarming rate of ecological degradation such as deforestation in the North and oil spillage in South south and border conflicts in all geopolitical zones attests political indifference in Nigeria.
