Infrastructure: The Silent Partner in Safety
We often blame the driver for accidents, but the design of the road itself plays a massive role in outcomes. "Forgiving infrastructure"—such as roundabouts instead of traditional intersections, rumble strips, and clear signage—is designed to minimize the consequences of human error. When a road is designed to naturally slow traffic in pedestrian zones, safety becomes a feature of the environment rather than a choice made by the individual. As we look toward the future of urban planning, the goal is to create "Vision Zero" cities where the road layout makes it physically difficult for a fatal mistake to occur
