Act only by that maxim which you'd see
Become a law for every soul to keep;
Not for the sake of some grand decree,
Nor for the harvest that the hand might reap.
The starry heavens and the moral law—
Two things alone fill every heart with dread;
In every human face, we find the flaw,
And yet a dignity that must be fed.
Do not use others as a stepping stone,
Or means to reach a selfish, private end;
The kingdom of the mind is yours alone,
Where duty is the only faithful friend.
The light of reason guides the steady feet,
To make the fractured world at last complete.
