PROME.Sonnets 03,04

Within the labyrinthine corridors of antiquity,
Where Ife’s bronze naturalism defies the ephemeral dust,
The Oduduwa mandate, a celestial ubiquity,
Forged a hegemonic peace from elemental trust.
Through Oyo’s cavalry-swept savanna expanse,
The Alaafin’s decree, a jurisprudential weight,
Guided the mercantile tides and the ritual dance,
Of a stratified society, preternaturally great.
From the indigo vats of Abeokuta’s skilled hands,
To the polyphonic complexity of the Bata’s beat,
A semiotic language across estuarine lands,
Rendered the metaphysical and the mundane complete.
O, iridescent legacy, whose ancestral spark,
Illuminates the African soul against the gathering dark.
The Atlantic became a transoceanic conduit,
For Shango’s lightning and Eshu’s mercurial wit,
As the Yoruba ethos, indomitably fluid,
Saw the Orishas on Caribbean altars sit.
In Bahian candomblés and Lucumí prayer,
The syncretic fusion of faith and fortitude,
Preserved the Odu corpus, meticulously rare,
Within a geopolitical and cultural beatitude.
No colonial artifice or imperial constraint,
Can extinguish the virulence of this epic strain,
Where the monarch, the merchant, the sinner, and saint,
Are intertwined in a limitless, vibrant chain.
A testament written in scarified stone and song,
To a civilization where the primordial and modern belong.
