According to the author everywhere rainforests are seriously 'under siege',being pillaged for pasture,for lumber and flooded with dams or so called artificial development projects.As they disappeared from the surface of the earth at the rate of one and a half acres per second per night per day and every day per annum,caused by rapid and tireless population growth and expansion into previously uninhabited regions,into marginal areas,the need for energy to bridge shortage of fuel by people in the developing countries and exploitation of their mineral resources for short term gain groaning under the yoke of neocolonialism and ravenous civilisation cannot be exonerated from this brutish plunder.He has predicted the extinction of the rainforest at the dawn of this century and we risk not only the loss of the richest storehouse of genetic information on the planet but also possible cures for the ailments that currently afflict us and diverse form of vital medicine,extracted from plants and animal of the forests.
