Contrary to the author and many critics,he wasnt an irrational pessimist.He did believe that man could improve his condition and that the ability of man to reproduce at a fairly rapid would jeopardise this improvement.Although i disagree with Malthus program of population control,so as to hedge against any increase in the means of subsistence,it was certainly beneficial to the west and secured her prosperity.None of the theorists,in the natural theories,compete with him in terms of originality and quality of thoughts.Most of these theories,were published to rubbish him and his pessimistic outlook who opposed distributing money to the poor and the later amendment to the Poor Laws of England.From Michael Thomas Sadler's theory published in Malthus time,to Thomas Doubleday's theory somewhat similar to Sadler,down to Herbert Spencer's and Gini's,then Karl Marx and Henry George,Arsene Dumont and Alexander Morris Carr- Saunders,none had originality of thoughts like Malthus.Population explosion is truly responsible.
