Sonnet 1:The Midnight Clock

Apparently the two original sonnets by the blogger ibikunle Abraham Laniyan Undertakes the theme of time and reflection. The first follows the classic Shakespearean form (iambic pentameter with an ABAB CDCD EFEF GG rhyme scheme), while the second is a Petrarchan sonnet (an octave and a sestet with an ABBAABBA CDECDE rhyme scheme).

Sonnet 1: The Midnight Clock

(Theme: Time and Reflection)

The quiet midnight marks the passing day,As gentle shadows dance upon the wall,The golden moon begins to slowly sway,And listens for the distant city's call. The ticking clock becomes a steady friend,A rhythm measured in the dead of night,It warns me that the shadows must descend,Before the coming of the morning light.Yet in this stillness, I can clearly see,The fleeting nature of our mortal spark,A quiet peace that settles over me,When navigating through the silent dark.Though time steals every moment we possess,The memory of love remains no less.
