A girl carved a tiny boat out of a dry autumn leaf and set it in a puddle. As soon as the leaf touched the water, it grew to the size of a real canoe. The puddle beneath it deepened into a clear, bottomless lake that reflected a completely different sky. She stepped into the leaf boat, and a gentle breeze pushed her across the water toward an island made entirely of golden trees that didn't exist in her neighborhood.
