The Lagos Dusk

Discover this original sonnet by the blogger ibikunle Abraham laniyan below: apparently capturing the quiet mystery of a Lagos evening.

Sonnet 1: The Lagos Dusk

A Shakespearean sonnet (ABAB CDCD EFEF GG) exploring the energetic transition from day to night along the Atlantic coast.

The golden sun descends on Lagos skies,And paints the harbor in a fiery hue. From bustling streets, the cooling breeze will rise,To sweep the heavy, humid heat anew. The yellow buses weave through tangled lanes,While distant music pulses in the dark. The weary worker soon forgets the pains,As street-side fires ignite a glowing spark. The ocean waves crash softly on the shore,A rhythmic beat that time cannot erase. The quiet of the night brings peace in store,And gives the city’s heart a softer pace.Though daily struggles test the human mind,In every dusk, a peaceful rest we find.
