An old sailor poured hot tea into a ceramic mug decorated with painted waves. As he lifted it to his lips, he heard the faint, rhythmic crash of surf against stone. He looked down and saw the liquid rising and falling inside the cup, perfectly synchronized with the global ocean tides. When a storm rolled in over the Atlantic miles away, tiny whitecaps formed on the surface of his orange pekoe, spraying microscopic droplets of sea foam against his thumb.
