Sonnet I: The Midnight Watch
When shadows stretch across the darkened room,And quiet steals upon the sleeping street,My thoughts escape the heavy bonds of gloom,To find a place where past and future meet. The ticking clock begins to softly slow,As memories awake within my mind,And in the dark, a gentle ember's glow,Reveals the treasures I have left behind.Yet morning comes to wash away the night,And chases every phantom thought away,The sleepy world is bathed in golden light,To greet the promise of a brand new day.Though midnight dreams depart with morning sun,The quiet of the soul has just begun
