Ben woke up and noticed his shadow was not attached to his feet. It was sitting comfortably in the armchair across the room, reading a book. When Ben stood up, the shadow looked up and waved politely. Ben walked to the kitchen to make coffee, and the shadow followed two steps behind, mimicking his movements with a slight, lazy delay. It seemed the shadow had simply decided to take a small holiday from being completely obedient.
