The Midnight Call

Sonnet 1: The Midnight Call

A reflection on the fleeting nature of time and memory. When silent shadows stretch across the floor,And quiet settles on the sleeping town,I count the moments I have hoarded moreThan any earthly king could wear a crown. The ticking clock becomes a steady drum,That beats a rhythm only I can hear,It tells me all my golden hours will comeTo nothing but a memory, my dear.Yet in this chamber where the starlight gleams,I catch a glimpse of what has passed us by,And weave the heavy fabric of our dreamsAgainst the darkness of an endless sky.Though fleeting moments fade and slip away,We hold the dawn until another day.

Sonnet 2: The Architect

A meditation on patience, nature, and creating beauty.A mason shapes the stubborn, jagged stone,And hammers out a rhythm in the heat,He works the marble silently alone,Until the heavy archway is complete. The branches reach into the quiet blue,To catch the fragile warmth the sun provides,And every season finds a way to renewThe shifting sand where ocean water glides. We too are bound to labor and to wait,To shape the raw material we find,And build a lasting structure against fate,From every quiet passion of the mind. For what we construct with patience and with care,Will stand defiant in the open air.

Sonnet 3: The Silent Language

A tribute to the expressive power of the natural world. The silver moon commands the quiet tide,And pulls the ocean with a gentle hand,While in the woods the hidden creatures hide,And leave their subtle tracks upon the sand. The falling leaves in autumn brightly burn,Before they scatter to the forest floor,The wheel of nature must forever turn,To close the heavy and the wooden door. And though we speak in every human tongue,And try to capture all we feel inside,The deepest songs we have so rarely sung,Are those we leave to nature and the tide. For words may fail and fade without a sound,But quiet truths are everywhere around.
